Quick Beauty Tip: MASCARA

December 16, 2014

Everyone who wears mascara will absolutely love this tip! As you may already know, mascara dries out pretty fast, so to fix that It's quite simple. Just add a three drops of Visine (or any brand of eye drops) into the tube, and then rub the wand around just a little to mix together. The Visine softens the mascara liquid, making it apply as if it were a brand new tube! DIY: Coffee Body Scrub

December 14, 2014

Hey there, FRESH FACE BEAUTIES, coffee is already a daily routine for most of you but, honey get ready to love and need it even more. 2. 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar (sea salt can be used instead)
  3. 3 Tablespoons Coffee Grounds (can be fresh or used)

Instructions
  1. Just mix all the ingredients together.
  2. Store in an airtight container.
  3. Use body scrub on damp skin only, and rinse.
Notes
  1. Makes approximately 3/4 cup body scrub.

As always I hope this helps :-)

Did you Know?

What does "Paraben Free" mean?

November 18, 2014

I'm sure you noticed that most of the makeup we love and use says it's "Paraben free". Which is probably why one of my lovely readers asked me a good question.....

Q: When makeup is "paraben free" what exactly does that mean?

A: Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives by cosmetic and pharmaceutical  industries. Parabens are effective preservatives primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. They can be found in shampoos, moisturizers, shaving gels, pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution, makeup and much more

When looking for a good quality makeup it should be "paraben free" because parabens have been found in breast cancer tumors (an average of 20 nanograms/g of tissue). Parabens have also displayed the ability to slightly mimic estrogen (a hormone known to play a role in the development of breast cancer). No effective direct links between parabens and cancer have been established, however. Another concern is that the estrogen-mimic aspect of parabens may be a factor in the increasing prevalence of early puberty in girls.

So the next time you walk up to a sales representative for makeup be sure to ask them if the product is Paraben free. The good news it that most cosmetics are jumping on the paraben free bandwagon!

Expiration Dates

Does Make-Up expire?

November 14, 2014

Hey Fresh Faced Beauties...

Have you ever dug in your make-up bag and found some lip Gloss/lipstick you forgot all about, used it and as a result your lips begin to swell or feel tingly? Honey, believe it or not Make-Up does EXPIRE!

The expiration time starts from the time it is opened.

Foundation: 1 year

Powders and shadows: 2 years

Cream shadows: 12 to 18 months

Lipstick, Lip Gloss & lip liner: 2 year

Liquid Mascara & eyeliners: 3 months

Eye & Lip pencils: 3-5 years

Nail Polish: 1 year

Nail Polish remover: Last forever

Shampoo: 2 to 3 years

Facial moisturizer: 12 Months
Concealer: 1 year

Blush/Bronzer: 18 Months

Hairstyling products: 3-5 years

Anti aging & Acne treatment: 3 months to a year. If it changes color then discard!

If the expiration date is not displayed then call the products customer service number.

Make-Up can harbor harmful bacteria that can lead to infections if you don't pay attention to expiration dates. It can also be harmful if you share your cosmetics with friends. So you might want to think twice before you allow your friend to use your make-up.

If your cosmetic product has a slight odor then leave it alone!!! You also want to be careful of where you buy your cosmetic products. Some stores don't have a lot of customers and as a result the owners don't replace products not knowing cosmetics expire. I went to a unpopular little dollar store and purchased some clear Lip gloss. After applying it to my lips, my lips got a rash all over them. (TMI, I know lol) I say all that to say stick with stores who have keep fresh stock of cosmetics or specialize in them. Places such as, CVS, or any drug store, Ulta, Sephora...and well you get the idea.

As always I hope this helps :-) Follow me on Instagram  @facesbymoni

Blush

My new BLUSH got me Blushing!

June 05, 2014

As a makeup artist I have tons of blushes for my clients but as for me I only like two on my complexion.  Its kinda weird because I will wear any color lipstick, and any color eyeshadow but won't really delve into different blushes.

I said all of that to say... honey I got a new blush that definitely got me blushing I am freaking in love with it!!!

It's Pierre Hardy x NARS High Voltage Blush - Rotonde

It's more of a Spring/Summer blush but I can definitely see myself wearing it all year around.  It's a gorgeous Peachy/Orangey color. More Orange then peach tho! A little goes a super long way… just the slightest touch of a blush brush is all you need. If you are a makeup junkie like me than you know NARS has some of the best blushes. Nars blushes last forever... No joke!

The pics below is me wearing the NARS Pierre Hardy Blush in Rotonde

DIY: Scrub that's beyond GOOD!

June 05, 2014

I was talking to one of my really good friends that I've had since 4th grade and I advised her as to what facial scrub she needs to go get it! Which is the Microdelivery by PHILOSOPHY.   BUT it's actually pretty expensive Eeeeek! :(

So then I thought about it and remembered there is an amazing scrub that is literally right in your kitchen and can be done for free!  Yasssss hunti I said FREE!

To create the scrub, just mix together half a cup of coarse brown sugar with a tablespoon of honey, a little olive oil, and 1/4 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, then apply all over your body/ FACE and rinse. The scrub not only smells delicious, but leaves your skin feeling ultra-smooth.

However if your skin is super sensitive I recommend you just mix of the brown sugar or Raw sugar with a teaspoon of your current cleanser.

Dare-to-Wear

Can black lipstick really be wearable?

May 05, 2014

Cruisin down Pinterest and all these gorgeous editorial magazines and I am seeing that the black lipstick trend is really in full force.  However in the streets near me... Malls, and wherever else I have not yet to see someone actually take on the trend. So of course you know me I love dare to wear!

I simply lined my entire lip with black eyeliner from Calvin Klein cosmetics. I pat a little bit of black eyeshadow on top of the lip to give a deeper black look and to seal the deal I added a little bit of gloss on top! Adding gloss is optional, if you don't add gloss ill just give you a nice Matt look.

Coconut Oil

A few reasons why Coconut oil is a MUST!

April 11, 2014

Honey Chile let me tell you one of the things that make me smile nowadays is Coconut Oil... well Extra Virgin coconut oil that is (ECVO). Coconut oil is one of the healthiest oil in the world.

Coconut Oil very good at hydrating skin. It sinks in deep, conditions, moisturizes, and softens skin. It isn’t pumped full of water or petroleum byproducts like many commercial cleansers or lotions either. Skin is kept clean by an oily substance called sebum. When sebum mixes with too much dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells it can clog pores and lead to acne and other blemishes and honey who wants that?!!
I love the fact that Coconut oil naturally clears away dirt, grime, and dead skin cells. It even has some antibacterial properties, killing off harmful bacteria. Coconut oil is the all-in-one natural solution to all your skin problems! I know what ya thinking... Why didn't unknown this earlier in life.  Don't worry, better late than never.  But wait there is more...

EVCO soothes bug bites, speeds healing, helps with rashes, gets rid of flaking skin, softens and shrinks wrinkles, protects against sun damage, keeps tans longer, acts as an antioxidant to prevent cellular aging, and so much more. It removes makeup easily and even makes the perfect massage oil.

Please make sure your EVCO is organic/pure! USDA approved!

My EVCO is by Better Body foods... Stay tuned because my next post will be why EVCO is great for your hair!

Q & A: Eyeshadow Primer

March 19, 2014

Here is a question from one of readers...
Q: What is eye shadow primer? Do I really NEED it?
A: YEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! If you prime your wall before you paint it a gorgeous color, your desired look will be true to color and last a long time. I know, I know you are probably saying "Monica, what does this have to do with beauty?" lol Well, the same concept goes for your eyes. As a result of priming your eyes first before applying eyeshadow, your flawless look will last longer and prevent creasing. A good primer will stop your natural oils in your skin from mixing with your eyeshadow.
There are 3 shadow primers that are the BEST in the world of make-up...

URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION
This primer has most MakeUp Artist and make-up addicts panties in a bunch because its an awesome product. This what I currently use at the moment and honey I love it!! Highly recommend it.

Two faced shadow Insurance
This is another great primer that is loved by many. It does the job!

NYX eyeshadow base
This primer is less expensive yet very effective. This base is great for giving your eye shadow a more vibrant look but I find that it does not stop any natural oil like the Primer potion and Too faced.
The pictures below show are me using Urban Decay Primer Potion and NYX eyeshadow base on one of my clients

Mascara

Quick Beauty Tip: Mascara

March 03, 2014

What do you do with your mascara when you are done with it? Gurrrrl, you better save that money! Instead of tossing them in the trash when your mascara expires, wash and repurpose those wands! You can use them as an eyebrow brush, even applying a bit of color before sweeping across your brows. Or, spray with hairspray and use them to brush and keep your eyebrows in place.
Well as always I hope this helps!

My MakeUp look!

eye liner

Quick Beauty Tip: Eyeliner

February 19, 2014

To keep your liner behaving, sweep loose or pressed powder right under the eye liner on your bottom lid. It creates somewhat of a barrier, preventing your eyeliner from traveling downward.

Well as always, I hope this helps!

Golden Globe's 2014: lupita nyong'o

January 13, 2014

Yes, this is a beauty blog but honey... the 2014 Golden Globe's was yesterday so you know I gotta discuss my FAVORITE best dressed hottie.

Lupita Nyong'o looked beyond gorgeous in ralph lauren, fred leighton. That beautiful red up against her smooth chocolate skin looked perfect. I honestly think no one could have worn it better!

Did I mention how Nyongo'o make up looks flawless and very elegant... I just really loved her whole look... You Go Girl!

I give Lupita 2 well manicured thumbs up!

Nails

Brittle, Chipped nails

January 08, 2014

It's bad enough we have to deal with dry cracked lips but also we have to deal with dry brittle nails. Well let's just thank Winter for that!

Using a super harsh nail filer to shape nails can cause the nail layers to separate, and cause unwanted peeling. Antimicrobial soaps, handwashing and only God knows what else, can cause nails to become dry and brittle causing nails to chip and peel.

I recommend you use a 240 grit or higher (280/320) nail file to shape natural nails and rehydrate cuticles and nails daily with coconut oil to keep nails strong and healthy.

Well as always I hope this helps!

OPI Partners with Music and Fashion Icon

January 03, 2014

OPI joins celebrity partner Gwen Stefani in announcing seven new limited edition nail lacquers for 2014, featuring standout color in breakthrough finishes. Highlights from the collection include a bold red lacquer that pays homage to Gwen’s signature lipstick, a new semi-matte satin finish in shades of gold and black, and a mirrored chrome paired with a special base coat.

Inspired by the 2013 Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala that featured the theme “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” OPI Executive VP and Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann decided to create a collection of lacquer celebrating the role of music as a major influence in fashion. “With her expertise as a singer, songwriter and designer, who better to collaborate with than Gwen Stefani?” asks Weiss-Fischmann. “Known for her trademark red lips, bold eye makeup and nail art, Gwen uses beauty to accessorize her style.”

Gwen’s signature red OPI hue – Over & Over A-Gwen – is available in a boxed set, which includes Swarovski black crystals and silver, gold and pewter studs in bar, square, diamond and circle shapes for creating unique nail designs, as well as nail glue for easy application. Love.Angel.Music.Baby. and 4 in the Morning feature a new, semi-matte satin finish designed to be worn without top coat. Push and Shove, a bold chrome hue, is also worn without top coat but requires a special complimentary base coat – Lay Down that Base. One thin coat of Lay Down that Base topped with two thin coats of Push and Shove yields an intense, mirrored finish. The collection is rounded out with two glossy crème lacquers and one sparkly glitter shade: Hey Baby, I Sing in Color, and In True Stefani Fashion. “OPI wanted to create a collection as dramatic, diverse and glamorous as its namesake,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “With crème and glitter hues, new satin matte texture, a mirrored chrome and SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, Gwen Stefani by OPI presents the latest in pigments and finishes, while combining elements of haute couture and street fashion.”

Gwen Stefani by OPI includes the following seven limited edition nail lacquers: Hey Baby, I Sing in Color, Love.Angel.Music.Baby., 4 in the Morning, In True Stefani Fashion, Push and Shove* and Over & Over A-Gwen**.
Gwen Stefani by OPI nail lacquers contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application.
